THE SACRED PASCHAL TRIDUUM
Celebration of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ
Sacred means “venerated or blessed.” Paschal means “Passover.” Triduum means “three days.” Therefore, the Sacred Paschal Triduum is the three-day span of time -- counted sunset-to-sunset, from Holy Thursday’s nightfall until Easter Sunday’s nightfall.
These three days are one festival of worship. We gather together with other parishioners -- and in solidarity with other Catholic faithful and Christians in every time and place around the world -- to fast, pray and keep watch.
We solemnly commemorate and reverently celebrate through our Church’s scriptural lens of Christ’s passion, death and resurrection. The ancient liturgical services that take place during the Sacred Paschal Triduum are:
- Holy Thursday’s evening Mass of the Lord's Supper
- Good Friday’s Passion of the Lord
- Holy Saturday’s Easter Vigil in the Holy Night -- and Easter Sunday’s Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord
Please make every effort to participate in these holy days by attending the celebrations of the solemn liturgies at your home parish or join in at one of our many churches.
